Jérôme Sans - Julian Charrière - Winner of the SAM Prize for Contemporary Art 2022

Following his investigations of the relationship between mankind and nature, the artist Julian Charriere, winner of the SAM Prize for Contemporary Art 2022, affirms with Stone Speaker his commitment to our ecosystems' preservation through the poetic force that characterizes his work. For this new project that will be presented at Palais de Tokyo in 2024, Julian Charrière will travel to Java, Indonesia, to investigate the geothermal landscape of East Java, home to one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Together with researchers and locals, he will collect various material to create an immersive space documenting the singular voices of volcanos. Connecting listening with emotional engagement, the project aims to explore what has yet to be discovered and learn from such mythical natural formations.
