Altered States is an exhibition which explores cinema as a dream state and connects it to the collective subconscious. It is also the first extensive show of Marco Brambilla in Italy, which includes a new series of work created specifically for HAUS Golden Goose (Venice Marghera, Italy). 

As the viewer deambulates throughout the rooms, he discovers a series of interconnected industrial spaces which reimagine reality as a fluid, shifting construct, where the boundaries between the physical and the virtual dissolve. Brambilla creates a dialogue between analogue cinematic language and cutting-edge digital techniques, through the spaces in HAUS as well as through the layers of human consciousness. The exhibition challenges conventional notions of linear storytelling, instead offering a fragmented experience that mirrors the complexity of thought and memory.

By juxtaposing iconic cultural imagery with surreal, otherworldly landscapes, Altered States prompts reflection on how media and technology shape our understanding of reality. The installation’s hypnotic visuals and soundscapes evoke a state of altered awareness, encouraging viewers to confront the interplay between their inner worlds and external stimuli. Brambilla’s work underscores the transformative power of art to bridge the tangible and the intangible, the real and the imagined.

HAUS : 
Located within the Golden Goose headquarters in Marghera, HAUS is a space that celebrates art, culture, and craftsmanship. Designed as a “house”, a permanent home, the keys have been handed over to one temporary tenant, an Artist Host, who is invited to temporarily inhabit the space with all their universe and references.
