This catalogue was published on the occasion of the Guerra interior (Inner War) exhibition by the Cuban artist Dagoberto Rodrìguez, curated by the Chilean expert Andrea Pacheco Gonzàlez. the show reflects the maturity of the artistic career of one of the most important Cuban artists of his generation by outlining the main thematic trajectories which have irrigated his work, launched into a new beginning since the dissolution of the iconic Cuban collective Los Carpinteros in 2018, after the 27 years of collaboration. The exhibition covers political and social issues, death and eternity, utopia, History, technological and scientific progress.
Dagoberto Rodriguez Sánchez was born in Caibarién, Las Villas in 1969, and graduated from Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA), Havana, Cuba in 1994. Combining architecture, design and sculpture, his work employs humor and irony to comment on core topics in art, politics and society. Watercolor forms a very important part of his creative process, it is a way of collaborating, registering and revising his ideas. Often these reflect a fantasy of a possible conceptual situation.
"I come from a world (Cuba), which has been a great failed utopian experiment. That is why I am more interested in utopia as a failure because it is much more interesting from a narrative point of view that utopia itself".
- Dagoberto Rodrìguez
