LagoAlgo
New living and cultural Hub // Mexico

Art institutions Co-Founder Artistic Director

LagoAlgo is a hybrid initiative where art and culture in general are at the forefront of the beating heart of this adventure. An open platform of dialogs and exchanges to look at, question, and potentially reinvent the world; a world in which we are definitely connected to nature, concerned with our shared future and its sustainability. A place to live, where art and life are unified. LagoAlgo is not a fixed model, but in permanent flux, like a snowball it will mutate and change through time, regularly adding new usages, forms of projects, or include various new actors or collaborations. LagoAlgo is, by definition, a new space for living and sharing.

LagoAlgo is a place to come together, following its original history, with a cafe and a unique restaurant aware of the origin of its products. Conceived by Micaela Miguel, it is a sustainable fishing model that seeks to bring the farm to the table to, over time, contribute to redesigning the food chain and generate value for all its actors.

LagoAlgo is an autonomous and inclusive project, designed as an integral part of the breathing lung of the city. A place of encounters with nature, with the history of modern architecture, and the future of inter-connections between art and culture.
The building, conceived from its inception and to date as a concession, opened to the public on October 24th, 1964. It was signed by the then City Works Manager for Mexico City, Leónides Guadarrama, and designed by the architect Alfonso Ramírez Ponce when he was just 24 years old.

Interested in the lightness, economy, and efficiency of structures ––and influenced by architects such as Mies van der Rohe and Félix Candela–– Guadarrama and Ramírez Ponce proposed a hyperbolic paraboloid that sat on top of the building and opened onto the lake, arguing that it was the protagonist of the project and that being in the space implied observing the spectacle offered by the landscape, “like a stage within a theater”.Over the years, the building underwent multiple modifications, with several interventions that altered the original design. Currently, the LagoAlgo cultural project seeks to continue the restoration of the building, in collaboration with Naso studio, to return it to its original splendor and audacity.
