Jérôme Sans created a unique arrival experience program which focused on the 10 first minutes that shape the memory a client keeps of their experience in a hotel, right from the taxi up until the arrival in the room. It consisted in working with all the tools of the brand to deploy them globally and speak across all properties worldwide. Like crossing an image, creating a boundary between the street and the interior, from public to private space, the entrance to the hotel was transformed into a Transitional Portal, which, through a visual and sensory effect, reset the guests’ minds, inspiring and enticing them to discover Le Méridien Hotels. Each artist proposed a series of possible visuals, which were presented according to their relationship with the country’s culture and the building aesthetic. Each visual was shown once or twice worldwide, creating a catalog of visual possibilities. 60 artworks, provided by eight up-and-coming and established international artists, offered a surprising juxtaposition to the local environment of the hotel. Artists included Hisham Bharoocha, Joan Fontcuberta, Ralph Gibson, Youssef Nabil, Younes Rahmoun An Xiaotong, Chen Wenbo, Marcus Kreiss. A sensory experience was also created thanks to the creation of an olfactory signature by perfume designers Le Labo.  This was coupled by a 24-hour soundscape in the elevator composed by Henri Scars as well as a playlist conceived by Jérôme Sans to accompany all the stages of the day. 
 
Jérôme Sans initiated UNLOCK ART, a programme which transforms the functional use of a simple room key into something augmented. Contemporary artists were engaged to develop and provide unique key card artworks making the cards collectible pieces of art. In addition, the key cards not only unlocked the guests’ rooms but also gave the guests the opportunity to unlock the most creative local cultural experience, chosen by Jérôme Sans. Designed by LM100 contemporary artists, including Michael Lin, Hisham Bharoocha, Sam Samore, and Yan Lei, the key cards formed a curated collection of artworks that expanded with time. Each key card series was available for a limited timeframe before being replaced by the work of a new artist. Every time a set of cards was used up by clients, it was later framed and exhibited behind the hotel desk. These frames progressively revealed the history of the keycards and created an artwork out of them.
 
Le Méridien’s non-traditional approach of curated initiatives and experiences in the world of culture was further enriched in 2010 with the launch of the ‘A New Perspective’ event series, a series of contemporary arts discussions further bringing to life Le Méridien’s promise: a new perspective. Developed with the guidance of Jérôme Sans, this New Perspective Event series consisted of talks and artist-designed dinner, conceived between artists and chefs from all over the world. Each event was an interactive experience exploring an LM100 member or another creatives’ specialty, and allowed guests to leave with the feeling that they have both been inspired and learnt something new.
