On Sociology
Stefan Brüggemann

Books & Magazines Author

The philosophy of language and poetry are crucial tenets in Stefan Brüggemann’s practice which encompasses sculpture, video, painting, drawing and installations. He is interested in “words that become images” and in the fluidity of text, both in its form and in its meaning. Inspired by brutalist architecture and countercultures, he adopts a “guerrilla style” to interact very fast and directly with words. Most often taken from newspapers headlines or movie titles, the texts of his works are intertwined and superimposed, creating puns and new meanings while being oriented towards social criticism. Brüggemann focuses on the way we speculate about reality and our immediate future, echoing the frantic rhythms of today's world.
