Renovation of the Montparnasse Tower
Paris, France
Architects: Nouvelle AOM (Franklin Azzi, Chartier Dalix, Hardel le Bihan)
Mission: Artistic Direction
The Montparnasse tower embodies a marker of the Parisian cityscape. The architecture agency Nouvelle AOM has won the competition launched by the co-owners of the Tour Montparnasse. The Tower, a symbol of Parisian modernity will be redesigned to become clearer, low carbon, economical and able to offer new uses. Art will be thought of as the spinal column of this tower of the 21st century: like a lantern in the sky, day or night, the Montparnasse Tower, from modernity to the digital age, becomes a support for works of art and a signal.
Under the artistic direction of Jérôme Sans, art irrigates its spaces both vertically and horizontally. With a program reactivated regularly, the Tower contributes both to the public cultural life and nightlife of Montparnasse neighbourhood and of the City of Paris. On one hand, are planned perennial interventions, works integrated into the architecture. On the other hand, the artistic program foresees renewed creations, at the scale of the city, with facades which also become an exceptional artistic and programmatic support.
