Ullens center for contemporary art (UCCA)
Beijing, China
Architect: Jean-Michel Wilmotte
Missions: Conception - Positioning - Development managing - Architectural planning
Dates: 2008 — 2012
For Ullens center for Contemporary Art Conception, Jérôme Sans, in charge of the development as well as the structural, cultural and architectural positioning, has completely rethought the institution.
From 2008 to 2012, Jérôme Sans was the director of UCCA, establishing it as the first private cultural institution in China and the model for many private Chinese museum projects. Jérôme Sans contributed to develop a new economy around an ambitious program of exhibitions and events on an international scale with Olafur Eliason & Ma Yansong, Cao Fei, Liu Xiaodong or Erwin Wurm among others.
He collaborated with architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte to redefine the structure of the art center into a malleable exhibition space, housed in a former 1950s Bauhaus-inspired factory.
