De 2008 à 2012, Jérôme Sans a été directeur de l’UCCA, l’établissant comme la première institution culturelle privée en Chine et le modèle de nombreux projets de musées privés chinois. Jérome Sans a contribué à développer une nouvelle économie autour d’un programme ambitieux d’expositions et d’événements à l’échelle internationale avec entre autres Olafur Eliason & Ma Yansong, Cao Fei, Liu Xiaodong ou Erwin Wurm.

Il a collaboré avec l’architecte Jean-Michel Wilmotte pour redéfinir la structure du centre d’art en un espace d’exposition malléable, établie dans une ancienne usine des années 1950 inspirée du Bauhaus.
